The Pros and Cons of Airbrush Make Up
Airbrush technique has gained popularity in bridal make up. There’s no doubt that airbrush make up, when done correctly, creates a smooth, flawless look that may be difficult to achieve with traditional make up, but there are some things you should consider before choosing this method of application for your wedding. Here are some of the pros and cons:
1. Stays All Day Long
Airbrush Make up comes in usually comes in silicon-based and water-based formula. Recommended for wedding day make up is the silicone-based as it lasts longer and is more water resistant than regular make up. It’ll be able to withstand most of the hugging and kissing that are more likely to happen throughout the wedding day.
2. Smooth and Naturally Flawless Finish
Airbrush technique allows for make up to be applied evenly, creating a smooth and naturally flawless finish—perfect for the hundreds of pictures that you’ll be taking all day.
3. Minimal Make up
Airbrush make up uses less product than traditional make up because of the spray technique application process, a minimal amount of make up goes a long way. Some Make Up Artists apply a combination of traditional make up and airbrush make up. I don’t recommend this technique as this leads to the use of too much products and possible caking of make up on your face. Airbrush make up is used to avoid too much make up products on your face. If you’re getting an airbrush make up, there is definitely no need for traditional make up. So make sure you confirm this to your Make Up Artist.
4. Easy to Layer
Since you can apply airbrush make up in such a fine layer, it dries super quickly, so you can add more layers for coverage as desired.
1. Can Be Flaky
Airbrush make up is great on moisturized, hydrated skin, but if your skin tends to be on the drier side, the spray-on product may begin to flake. Since the formula is waterproof, the consistency is a lot less creamy than traditional foundation.
2. Hard to Re-Blend
If your make up wasn’t applied correctly, it may tend not to withstand tears and sweat. If you end up crying and your make up streaks, it’s difficult to fill in the streaks with more airbrushing or even regular make up, making it harder to re-create your original, flawless look. However, if it’s applied properly by your Make Up Artist, then this shouldn’t be an issue and your make up will be tough and will last all day and night.
3. Limited Shade Options
The type of foundation formula used with an airbrush is different than everyday foundation, and there’s a more limited selection of shades and brands to choose from. However, this shouldn’t be an issue if your Make Up Artist is trained on mixing the right shades to perfectly match your natural skin tone.
4. More Expensive
Airbrush make up service is more expensive than traditional make up for some reasons – the products are more expensive than traditional make up products not to mention the machine used for the application, the training your Make Up Artist paid for so she could deliver excellent service, the quality of the products and all the other things traditional make up can’t do for you.
At the end of the day, you want to look and feel like the prettiest version of yourself on your wedding day, so definitely consult your Make Up Artist for you to have a clear vision of what is best for you.
